🚀 Position Overview
We’re seeking a PhD researcher in polymer chemistry to lead materials development for our next-generation synthetic fiber technology. You’ll be responsible for polymer formulation development, and translating research into commercial specifications for manufacturing partners.
This is a research-driven role requiring deep polymer chemistry expertise, industry collaboration experience, and the ability to work at the intersection of academic rigor and commercial application.
We’re creating lab-engineered fiber that performs like human hair - targeting 80-100+ wear cycles with heat styling capability up to 200°C.
🧠 Roles & Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize polymer blend formulations (PET/PBT/PTT/Nylon systems)
- Recommend polymer modifications to achieve performance targets (durability, heat resistance, curl memory)
- Create testing protocols to validate fiber performance
- Develop specifications for manufacturing partners
- Review and evaluate technical specifications from manufacturing partners
- Translate performance requirements into polymer engineering parameters
- Assess supplier capabilities and recommend manufacturing partners
- Troubleshoot formulation issues with manufacturing partners
- Design testing protocols for in-house capability
- Interpret characterization data (tensile testing, thermal analysis, et al)
